Oahu - the Capital Isle

Early along Kaluwaa Loop Trail Kaluwaa Loop Trail
Ekahanui Gulch

A very short novice loop trail in the southern windward Waianaes that will delight even the most expert of botanical gurus.
Waianae crest-walk between Puu Kanehoa and Puu Hapapa Kanehoa-Hapapa Summit Trail
Puu Kanehoa, Puu Hapapa

An exquisite crest-hike atop the narrow Waianae spine with panoramic views of central and leeward Oahu. Gain the Waianae crest via one of the ridges (Kanehoa or Hapapa), then descend the other.

Kaua

A relatively quick, but pulse-pounding, ascent to 360-degree panoramic views of the Nanakuli coast, the central plains, and the entire Koolau Range atop the island's fifth highest peak.
View of Makua Valley early along Makua Rim Makua Rim Trail
Three Corners

A continuation of Kuaokala Ridge, this ungraded ridgeline path behind Makua Valley brings you out of Pahole NARS to the distinct "three corners" triple-ridge junction before Mt. Kaala. Arguably, this is one of the best viewspots on the island.
Pacific Ocean view while climbing Kealia Trail switchbacks Kealia Trail

If you're looking to avoid trespassing issues, dangerous climbs, and extremely lengthy hikes but want a taste of what hiking in the Waianaes has to offer, this is the trail for you! This trail also has the distinction of being one of the very few Oahu mountain trails which start near sea level.
Looking up Kamananui Ridge while on Dupont Trail Dupont Trail
Kamananui Ridge, Dupont, De Ponte

Not the longest, but the tallest and one of the oldest trails on the island. One of a handful of trails that start near sea-level, this is the only one which sports both a 4,000-foot climb and a visit to Mount Kaala - Oahu's highest peak.
