Palikea Summit Trail Palikea, Palehua An awesome, graded hike along the suprisingly woodsy southern Waianae crest with cool winds, superb views of south central and leeward Oahu, and a healthy plethora of native flora and animals. It also has the distinct honor of having the highest trailhead in the island. |

Sunset Trail Camp Timberline A small, novice trail above Makakilo behind secluded Camp Timberline provides a basic self-guided informational tour to trees featured in Hawaii as well as a great Waianae Coast view at the end. |
Waianae Kai Trail Kaala, Waianae-Kaala This is an antipode of typical Waianae Range hikes for it is surprisingly lush, wet, and cool. This is the most used route to the highest peak on Oahu. This upper section of Kamaileunu Ridge stands in the misty shadow of Mount Kaala, its mountain-top bog attracts botanists ranging from novices to research scientists! |
Kuaokala Ridge Trail A different type of trail, indeed! Taking on the characteristic Waianae dryness, it adds to it groves of drought-resistant pines. The path, sometimes dusty and gravel-ish, gains elevation gently, providing a good trail for short backpackings and views of Makua Valley. |
Kaena Point Trail An easy walk to the westernmost tip of the island, it's miles of crashing waves and clear, blue sky. Bring your sunblock and hat for there's nothing overhead but sun, sun, sun! |
