Kaau Crater Trail Visit one of Oahu's most popular and the most reclusive geologic feature nestled in the mountains above Honolulu. A gorgeous waterfall cascades from the crater. |
Mauumae Ridge Trail Lanipo A popular trail, this is a tough rollercoaster workout to the Koolau crest! Along the way are neat views of Kaau Crater plus a crest-walk to the trail terminus. |
Wiliwilinui Ridge Trail One of the best 4WD-road walks on Oahu, if you like that sort of thing. If not, this trail has the shortest length of ungraded ridge to the Koolau crest. |
Hawaii Loa Ridge Trail Hawailoa Ridge A semi-tame ungraded ridge hike with a stiff, final climb to the top. There are great views of Waimanalo, Kailua, the Lanikai shoreline, Honolulu, and Diamond Head for those willing to negotiate the very steep and eroded final ascent. |
Kuliouou Ridge Trail Puu o'Kona A no-nonsense way to the crest of the southeastern Koolaus, this graded trail leads you up from a valley of pines, switchbacks to the wooded ridgeline, then breaks out into the open. An exhilarating crest-climb brings you to panoramic views from Puu o Kona. |
Kuliouou Valley Trail This is your basic, novice trail which dips deep into the Kuliouou Forest Reserve. Relatively unremarkable, don't expect anything spectacular on this trail other than a gentle, natural hike next to an often-dry streambed. |
Kamiloiki Ridge Trail Makahuene Heiau If you're in the Hawaii Kai area and want a more lengthy day-hike but something not as strenuous or woodsy as Kuliouou Ridge, try this open ridge trail. This ungraded ridgeline is great if you enjoy lots of sun and continual views of Kamilonui and Kamiloiki Valleys. |
Mariner's Ridge Trail Kuliouou Ridge A nifty little ridge trail to the crest of the Koolau summit with a nice, dry pine forest about halfway into the trail and great windward views from the top. This is the fastest and easiest way to the Koolau crest and a great choice for a family day-hike. |
Koko Crater Trail Kohelepelepe A prominent feature when entering the Hawaii Kai area, Koko Crater stands high above the bustling residential and tourist traffic below. Its highest point, Puu Mai, stands above Kohelepelepe - the Hawaiian name for Koko Crater. Come for the 360-degree views! |
Koko Head Rim Trail Iheihelauakea A restricted, paved road built to maintain the FAA and commercial communication transceivers atop Koko Head, residents use it for daily walks. Take the less beaten path off this road to explore the small, but legendary Nonoula and Ihiihilauakea Craters. |
